Welcome to Kallmee Kennel

Kallmee Kennel - For over 45 years the home of champion, Cockers, Vizsla, and Toy Fox Terriers. We breed for show, or companionship. Quality not Quantity! Dogs from our kennel can be seen in conformation, obedience, agility, therapy and service as well as treasured pets.

ABOUT THE VIZSLA The Vizsla is bred to be a close working gun dog, and has the energy to range all day. He is lightly built, but muscular, giving him power, drive, speed and endurance in the field yet a loving companion in the home. He is a true hunter at heart, a talented pointer and always on the look out for bird scent. Natural retrievers, in the home everything ends up being carried in his mouth. He can become frustrated and destructive if not given adequate exercise. The Vizsla needs exercise everyday, and cannot be expected to meet his energy requirements with a short walk or within a small yard. This is not a lay by the hearth and look regal dog - this dog will bounce and race around your house like he's prepping for a NASCAR race.

While generally happy and compliant dogs, some can be stubborn, some can be timid and others can be overly excitable. Vizslas are sensitive though fearless, devoted to those who treat them kindly and give them affection. The Vizsla is not very discriminating to who he shows affection, he loves everyone. He is gentle and sensitive, with a well developed protective instinct which usually means loud barking at strangers. The Vizsla makes a good companion for an active owner who spends a lot of time outdoors.

The Vizsla has a medium to high energy level with lots of playfulness. He is highly affectionate, friendly towards other dogs, and other pets. The Vizsla loves meeting strangers, and has an above average ability to take training, but will be shy and fearful if not adequately socialized during puppyhood. Health issues such as hip dysplasia, epilepsy, immune system disorders and other genetic problems can be found in Vizslas and puppy buyers are wise to question breeders about these in their lines.

The Vizsla requires very little grooming. Vizslas prefer to sleep on beds and sofas and will be like velcro - attached to you everywhere you go.

Where did the kennel name come from? We started with Cocker Spaniels in the 70's. Although our first official conformation show was in 1978, our first two cockers weren't quite good enough and we got into obedience. Those two cockers, Sinbad and Yankee, were good in obedience and excelled on the recall. They would sit at the end of the mat and wiggle their butts and with all their body language say "Call me! Call me!" Hence our name - Kallmee!

We stayed with cockers till 1994 and had a number of champions both here in America and in Europe. We also had several champion English Cocker Spaniels over the years. We've had two Akitas, one Afghan Hound (Mason the wonder dog) and a champion Japanese Chin - CH Touches The Cat's Meow - Miss Kitty (aka "she who rules the roost"). We got our first Vizsla in the early 1980s and the rest, as they say, is history.

Although we are very active in the breed ring, we have continued in obedience throughout the years and have finished many obedience titles, taught classes (both conformation and obedience) for many years and judge matches for both venues.

  • We haven't been in the dog ring as much the last few years as our adventures have carried us into the horse show rings as of late. But look for us in the breed ring with Kallmee Athena (Zena) and in obedience with Ch Kallmee The Golddigger RN(Abby).
  • In the horse ring you can find us showing Awesome Chocolate (Kisses) and The Chocolate Effect (Hershey) at the Appaloosa shows. Kisses was Reserve National Champion in Masters Western Pleasure and Hershey has numerous Top Tens in Trail class.

Why limited registration

Several puppy seekers have asked me why I sell on Limited Registration and won't allow puppies I sell as pets to be bred.
Please read my explanation.
The American Kennel Club has always recognized the role of the responsible breeder in preserving the integrity of its registry and the quality of the purebred dog in this country. In June of 1989, the delegates of the AKC voted to give breeders a valuable tool to protect their programs--the option of selling their puppies under Full or Limited Registration.
Limited registration honors the prerogative of knowledgeable, responsible breeders to decide which dogs in a litter may later be bred to produce AKC-registered dogs and which may not. By indicating Limited Registration on a dog's application an explaining the conditions to the new owners, the breeder can be confident that the owner cannot use the dog to produce and sell AKC-registerable puppies that may not meet the standards of the breeder's program. By using Limited Registration, breeders can provide AKC papers to all of their puppy owners, while still controlling which puppies will be bred. It is an excellent tool to demonstrate breeders' concern for the future of their lines and their commitment to preserving excellence within their breed.
The above is the AKC explanation of the Limited Registration program. I believe it explains it very well. There are many purebred dogs, including Vizslas, in rescue. Vizslas do not need to be bred just to make puppies. Good breeders only breed with an eye to produce superior animals that come as close to meeting the breed standard as possible and are willing to demonstrate this by exhibiting their dogs in the different venues which verify this  excellence. Good breeders study the pedigrees and are knowledgeable about the different lines and their strengths and weaknesses. They spend a great deal of time studying which would make the best cross, regardless of how far away the other dog may be. Good breeders carefully screen for genetic faults and never breed animals which might pass them on. Good breeders pay careful attention to conformation, ability, temperament and health and won't breed a dog which doesn't excel in ALL these areas. Good breeders carefully screen buyers, mentor them, take dogs back (even if dog is old) if for some reason the owner can no longer keep them, and feel a great responsibility both to the puppies they produce and the breed's future. We do not want Vizslas to be the fad breed were backyard breeders and puppy mills produce litter after nondescript litter just to make money. Good breeders, generally, have more expenses then income.
Only the very best Kallmee Vizslas are allowed to go on full registration. To my standard of excellence, that is usually only one or two per litter. I am very picky and I don't strive for numbers of champions but for the quality of the champion. We don't breed often; I breed to produce a dog for myself. My bitches are never bred more than once or twice in their lifetime. I am very picky which dogs will go forward as breeding stock. My dogs have won in dog shows around the world and are also active as hunting dogs, obedience dogs, therapy dogs, agility dogs, service dogs and search and rescue dogs. But their most important role is as beloved family pet. I have spent 35 plus years building a good reputation as a Vizsla breeder because I am passionate about this breed. When I sell a pet puppy, I want it to be just that - a pet - not a money-making machine that might be indiscriminately bred.
Hope this answers the question.

Should I stop letting my dog sleep with me at night?

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean.

A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth.

Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar.

The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen. She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way.
